Flats

Flats are really just square pieces of fabric that can be folded in different ways to either completely wrap around the little one (secured using Snappies®), or they can be pad folded so that they essentially act as regular inserts and be fitted into covers (or even pockets/sleeves).

A primary benefit of a flat is that it dries far quicker (when hung out to dry unfolded) than a regular insert which usually consists of about 4 layers. BiddyKins offers flats in a number of different fabric choices: bamboo, cotton or hemp  – the fabric options are available in both newborn size (50cm x 50cm) or regular size OSFM (70cm x 70cm).
Since some moms also like to use regular cotton flannel blankets as flats, we've included our small & large size cotton blankets here too.

 Bamboo: Super soft - keeps it's shape - good absorbency - slightly bulky
 Hemp Jersey: Not as soft as bamboo, preshrunk but still tends to shrink/distort in the wash - good absorbency - very trim
 SlimFit Cotton: Soft, preshrunk so will resist further shrinking, good absorbency, more trim than bamboo
 Hemp Fleece: Can become stiff after washing/drying (needs tumbledry or worked by hand), preshrunk but still tends to shrink/distort in the wash, ultimate absorbency, bulkier.

(Note that hemp fleece fabric is quite 'fluffy' and can release quite a bit of 'fluff' during the first wash.)
Keep in mind that flats are just the absorbent layers - you will always need some type of cover over the flats (eg PUL cover or Fleece cover) as a waterproof outer layer.
